Testing and Assessment

There are times when more information is needed about a child's strengths and weaknesses. The staff at Unlimited Potential Counseling & Education Center are available to provide cognitive (aka intelligence or IQ testing) testing, interpretation of educational assessments, and guidance for advocating for IEPs or creating Section 504 Plans for families in the St. Charles and St. Louis areas.
Cognitive (IQ) Testing - Qualifying for certain programs in or out of the school setting can require an IQ test. Cognitive assessments are also useful for identifying a child's individual areas of strength and struggles. Emily's office administers the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fifth Edition (WISC-V), Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI-IV), Stanford-Binet 5 (SB5), or Kaufman Brief Intelligence Scale - II (KBIT-II).
Specific Learning Disabilities/Dyslexia Testing - Identifying learning disabilities in bright children requires the understanding of how neurodivergent children mask their difficulties. The Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement (KTEA) is used in conjunction with a cognitive assessment to identify specific learning disabilities. The final report can be used to advocate for services or accommodations at the school.
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD) - A combined assessment using the Vanderbilt ADHD Scale and the Delis Rating of Executive Functioning (D-REF) can be used to determine the appearance of ADD/ADHD. This full report allows families to identify specific behavioral areas to target through therapy and with the cooperation of a primary care doctor can provide diagnosis for medication or documentation for a Section 504 Plan or Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
There are a variety of reasons that an individual may be interested in testing provided by a source outside of the school setting. If the purpose of the test is to provide documentation to support educational services within the school setting, please check with the school to ensure scores from an outside agency will be accepted.
